Dress Code


Dress Code

League House

It is the intention of the dress code to provide guidelines within which each Member is expected to demonstrate discretion and good judgment. It is the responsibility of each member to conform to the dress code and to ensure that family members and guests do so as well. All children in the League House are expected to be appropriately attired, and children over the age of twelve are required to conform to the dress code.


For Men


Jacket and tie are strongly preferred. Jacket and collared shirt are required at all times on the first floor members-only section of the League House.
Not Permitted: turtlenecks shirts, collared shirts open more than one button, untucked shirts, jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, and flip-flops.


For Women


Business suits, tailored pant or skirt ensembles and dresses.
Not Permitted: spandex, open midriffs, halter tops, shorts, leggings, extremely short hemlines (not more than 3” above the knee), jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, and flip-flops.
Summer Dress: Except for the 1862 dining room and bar, business casual attire may be worn throughout the League House from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Business casual attire: Defined as a collared shirt and pressed slacks for men and comparable attire for women


Unacceptable Attire


The following attire is never acceptable on the first or second floors of the League House: jeans, denim wear, tee shirts, athletic wear, tank, halter, or jogging tops, untucked shirts, collared shirts unbuttoned more than one button or two inches from the neck-line, wrinkled clothing, shorts, baseball caps, spandex, open midriffs, leggings, extremely short hemlines, sneakers, extremely casual or beach footwear.
Members and guests staying at the Inn of the League or using the Fitness Center may enter and leave the League House in attire that would not otherwise comply with the Rules of the House Committee only to go to or leave from the Fitness Center or the overnight rooms only by using the Sansom Street entrance and the elevators to and from the overnight rooms.


Exceptions


Breakfast: Business casual attire is acceptable in the Founders Room or Café Meredith for breakfast only. Saturday and Sunday: Business casual attire is acceptable on Saturday until 5:00pm and all day Sunday in the Café throughout the year
Private Dining/Meeting Rooms: Business casual attire is acceptable in private meeting rooms or for private dining events.


Golf Clubs and The Guard House

Dress is smart casual. Collared shirts are required and must be tucked. Blazer is preferred, but not required. Dark, well fitting, dress denim is allowed. No sneakers, ripped clothing or T-shirts. Summer Dress (Memorial Day to Labor Day) Dress, Bermuda shorts and sandals are allowed. No flip flops.

Bungalow

Resort wear is allowed.

Club Policies

Animals

Service dogs are welcome at the Union League. Service dogs are defined as any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.  Service dogs must be registered with the Union League in advance of their entrance to the League House or companion properties.  Other animals, including emotional support animals, are prohibited.

Business Papers

The discreet display of business papers is permitted, but discouraged, in the member dining rooms, hallways and lounges. Private rooms are available for business meetings.

Cell Phones, PDAs, Laptops, Digital Readers

Cell phones, personal digital assistants, and other similar devices may only be used in the Business Center or private meeting rooms except that the brief and discrete use of cell phones and PDAs are permitted but discouraged, in the Smoking Room, Business Café (located in the back of the Old café) and the main hallways. Reading with digital readers is permitted in all areas of the League house. Laptops and other similar devices may only be used in the Business Center, the Business Cafe and private meeting rooms. The use of speakerphones is prohibited, and all cell phone, PDA, and laptop alerts must be silenced throughout the League House except in private rooms.

Gratuities

The Union League and the Midtown Garage are non-tipping. All prices are inclusive of gratuity. Tipping is not permitted.

Reciprocal Guests

An overnight stay at The Inn at the League or The Lodge at Liberty Hill is required when using any reciprocal privileges at the League. Reciprocal privileges include use of golf at Union League Liberty Hill, use of The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale and its renowned Donald Ross course, clubhouse and pool and use of The Union League Guard House for dining on the Main Line. Other privileges include the use of the Fitness Center, the Business Centers, our three dining rooms, the Library, Barber Shop and Concierge.
